Grading Standards and Training Expectations

Colored belts represent the various levels of training achievements and are symbolic of the skill that has been attained and your level of proficiency.

The Kodai Shorinji-Ryu Karate and Kobujutsu Dojo acknowledges and awards the following belts:

Class-Time Requirements

White Belt 7th Kyu  
Yellow Belt 6 th Kyu 35 classes – 3 to 6 Months
Green Belt 5 th Kyu 35 classes, 3to 6 months fro last grading.
Purple Belt 4th Kyu 35 classes, 3to 6 months fro last grading
Brown Belt 3rd th Kyu 35 classes, 3to 6 months fro last grading.
Brown Belt 2nd Kyu 75 classes, 6 months to 1 year from last grading.
Brown Belt 1ST Kyu 75 classes, 6 months to 1 year from last grading.
Black Belt Shodan 75 classes, 6 months to 1 year from last grading.
 Black Belt (2nd Degree) Ni Dan Minimum 2 years after Sho Dan.
     
Rankings above shodan are not only awarded as a result of progress in technical expertise but also takes into consideration the character, years of training & contributions to the art and/or dojo of the individual Grading.
